冬天的百草園比較的無(wú)味;雪一下，可就兩樣了。拍雪人(將自己的全形印在雪上)和塑雪羅漢需要人們鑒賞，這是荒園，人跡罕至，所以不相宜，只好來(lái)捕鳥(niǎo)。薄薄的雪，是不行的，總須積雪蓋了地面一商天，鳥(niǎo)雀?jìng)兙靡褵o(wú)處覓食的時(shí)候才好。掃開(kāi)一塊雪，露出地面，用一枝短棒支起一面大的竹篩來(lái)，下西撒些秋谷，棒上系一條長(zhǎng)繩，人遠(yuǎn)遠(yuǎn)地牽著，看鳥(niǎo)雀下來(lái)啄食，走到竹篩底下的時(shí)候，將繩子一拉，便罩住了。但所得的是麻雀居多，也有白頰的“張飛鳥(niǎo)”，性子很躁，養(yǎng)不過(guò)夜的。

這是閏土的父親所傳授的方法，我卻不大能用。明明見(jiàn)它們進(jìn)去了.拉了繩，跑去一看，卻什么都沒(méi)有，費(fèi)了半天力，捉住的不過(guò)三四只。閏士的父親是小半天便能捕獲幾十只，裝在叉袋里叫著擔(dān)著的。我曾經(jīng)問(wèn)他得失的緣由，他只靜靜地笑道：你太性急，來(lái)不及等它走到中間去。

我不知道為什么家里的人要將我送進(jìn)書(shū)塾里去了，而且還是全城中稱為最嚴(yán)厲的書(shū)塾。也許是因?yàn)榘魏问诪鯕Я四鄩αT。也許是因?yàn)閷⒋u頭拋到間壁的梁家去了罷，也許是因?yàn)檎驹谑畽谏咸讼聛?lái)罷，……都無(wú)從知道?？偠灾何覍⒉荒艹５桨俨輬@了。ade，我的蟋蟀們!ade，我的覆盆子們和木蓮們!

出門(mén)向東，不上半里，走過(guò)一道石橋，便是我的先生的家了。從一扇黑油的竹門(mén)進(jìn)去，第三間是書(shū)房。中間掛著一塊扁道：三味書(shū)屋;扁下面是一幅畫(huà)，畫(huà)著一只很肥大的梅花鹿伏在古樹(shù)下。沒(méi)有孔子牌位，我們便對(duì)著那扁和龐行禮。第～次算是拜孔子，第二次算是拜先生。

第二次行禮時(shí)，先生便和藹地在一旁答禮。他是一個(gè)高而瘦的老人，須發(fā)都花白了，還戴著大眼鏡。我對(duì)他很恭敬，因?yàn)槲以缏?tīng)到，他是本城中極方正，質(zhì)樸。博學(xué)的人。

不知從那里聽(tīng)來(lái)的，東方朔也很淵博，他認(rèn)識(shí)一種蟲(chóng)，。名日“怪哉”，冤氣所化，用酒一澆，就消釋了。我很想詳細(xì)地知道這故事，但阿長(zhǎng)是不知道的，因?yàn)樗吘共粶Y博。現(xiàn)在得到機(jī)會(huì)了，可以問(wèn)先生。

“先生，‘怪哉，這蟲(chóng)，是怎么一回事?……”我上了生書(shū)，將要退下來(lái)的時(shí)候，趕忙問(wèn)。

“不知道!”他似乎很不高興，臉上還有怒色了。

我才知道做學(xué)生是不應(yīng)該問(wèn)這些事的，只要讀書(shū)，因?yàn)樗菧Y博的宿儒，決不至于不知道，所謂不知道者，乃是不愿意說(shuō)。年紀(jì)比我大的人，往往如此，我遇見(jiàn)過(guò)好幾回了。

我就只讀書(shū)，正午習(xí)字，晚上對(duì)課。先生最初這幾天對(duì)我很嚴(yán)厲，后來(lái)卻好起來(lái)了，不過(guò)給我讀的書(shū)漸漸加多，對(duì)課也漸漸地加上宇去，從三言到五言，終于到七百。

三味書(shū)屋后面也有一個(gè)園.雖然小，但在那里也可以爬上花壇去折臘梅花，在地上或桂花樹(shù)上尋蟬蛻。最好的工作是捉了蒼蠅蠅喂蟻，靜悄悄的沒(méi)有聲音。然而同窗們到園里的太多，太久，可就不行了，先生在書(shū)房皇便大叫起來(lái)：——

“人都到那里去了!”

人們便一個(gè)一個(gè)陸續(xù)走回去;一同回去，也不行的。他有一條戒尺，但是不常用，也有罰脆的規(guī)則，但也不常用，普通總不過(guò)瞪幾眼，大聲道：——

“讀書(shū)!”

于是大家放開(kāi)喉嚨讀一陣書(shū)，真是人聲鼎沸。有念“仁遠(yuǎn)乎哉我欲仁斯仁至矣”的，有念“笑人齒缺口狗竇大開(kāi)”的，有念“上九潛龍勿用”的，有念”厥土下上上錯(cuò)厥貢苞茅橘抽”的……。先生自己也念書(shū)。后來(lái)，我們的聲音便低下去，靜下去了，只有他還大聲朗讀著：

“鐵如意，指揮倜儻，一座皆驚呢——;金叵羅，顛倒淋漓噫，千杯未醉嗬……?！?/p>

我疑心這是極好的文章，因?yàn)樽x到這里，他總是微笑起來(lái)，而且將頭仰起，搖著，向后面拗過(guò)去，拗過(guò)去。

先生讀書(shū)人神的時(shí)候，于我們是很相宜的。有幾個(gè)便用紙糊的盔甲套在指甲上做戲。我是畫(huà)畫(huà)兒，用一種叫作“荊川紙”的，蒙在小說(shuō)的繡像上一個(gè)個(gè)描下來(lái)，像習(xí)字時(shí)候的影寫(xiě)一樣。讀的書(shū)多起來(lái)，畫(huà)的畫(huà)也多起來(lái);書(shū)沒(méi)有讀成，畫(huà)的成績(jī)卻不少了，最成片段的是《蕩寇志》和《西游記》的繡像，都有一大本。后來(lái)，因?yàn)橐X(qián)用，賣給一個(gè)有錢(qián)的同富了。他的父親是開(kāi)鋁箔店的。聽(tīng)說(shuō)現(xiàn)在自己已經(jīng)做了店主，而且快要升到紳士的地位了。這東西早已沒(méi)有了罷。
